Our Mission

Benaraby Dragway exists to promote drag racing and other forms of motorsport by providing regular opportunities for safe, controlled and sportsmanlike competition. As a community-based not-for-profit organisation, we aim to provide a welcoming environment for competitors, volunteers, families and spectators while creating opportunities for participation, volunteering and community connection within the Gladstone Region.

Our Long-Term Vision

Our long-term vision is to keep regional motorsport, particularly drag racing, alive and thriving in the Gladstone Region. We aspire for Benaraby Dragway to be recognised as Queensland’s leading regional drag racing facility and as a valued community asset that attracts competitors and visitors to the region, contributes to its liveability and vibrancy, supports local organisations and businesses, and gives back to the community that supports us.

About US

Since opening in 1980, Benaraby Dragway has been a cornerstone of Queensland’s motorsport scene. Originally known as The Golding Mile, the track has stood the test of time—continuing to deliver high-octane action on a full quarter-mile strip.

Our legacy began with our first ANDRA-sanctioned event on 13 September 1980, and the passion for drag racing has only grown stronger. Today, proudly sanctioned by IHRA Australia, Benaraby Dragway is operated entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers.

Located just 30 minutes from Gladstone and 90 minutes from Rockhampton, we are a not-for-profit organisation committed to promoting safe, inclusive, and family-friendly motorsport. We also play an important role in supporting regional tourism and local businesses across Central Queensland.

On most Friday nights leading into race events, we host our popular Off Street Drags. These nights welcome a wide range of cars and bikes—including juniors and provisional licence holders—to test their vehicles, race their mates, and enjoy as many runs as possible in a controlled, safe environment. It’s the perfect entry point for newcomers, offering the chance to learn from experienced racers, understand track requirements, and build confidence. (The current record—22 runs in a single night—is held by Casey Rose on his 2006 Honda Hornet, “Rhonda”.)

Benaraby Dragway has a proud history of hosting national-level events, including NDRC and Kenda rounds. We’re also home to some of the region’s most iconic events—4×4 Mayhem (previously King of the Strip) and All Bikes, the latter being the largest motorcycle drag racing event in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2025, we launched our inaugural PowerMaxx660 event for blown, nitrous, and turbocharged vehicles. Building on that momentum, 2026 sees the introduction of an exciting new addition to the calendar: CQ GoldRush660.
